It is one thing to not be able to fall asleep, but it is something entirely different when you fall asleep, but get woken up by your own erratic breathing. People who suffer from sleep apnea experience repeated awakenings because the soft tissue in their breathing airway relaxes at night it causes a blockage, resulting in interrupted breathing from a couple of seconds up to a couple of minutes.

I decided to try CBD when I was withdrawing from Tramadol, a synthetic opiate I had been taking for pain (with 2 other medications) for over a year. As I began slowly reducing my use, I experienced a lot of anxiety and muscle tremors in my legs especially. I know that using a marijuana medication meant that my pain doctor would not prescribe for me again, but I was getting off the pain medications one by one anyway, so I don't care.
A study published in 1993 by Zuardi et al. attempted to elucidate the effects of ipsapirone and cannabidiol among humans exposed to an experimental anxiety task. For the study, researchers recruited 40 healthy volunteers that were assigned to a simulated public speaking (SPS) test – designed to mimic the effects of public speaking. The 40 participants were divided into 4 groups of 10 – each of which was assigned randomly to receive: CBD (300 mg), Valium (10 mg), ipsapirone (5 mg), or a placebo.
Cannabidiol offers a novel pharmacodynamic profile as an anxiolytic agent. It is believed that administration of CBD (cannabidiol) modulates neurotransmission in a multitude of ways. Literature shows that cannabidiol alters 5-HT1A, GPR55, CB1/CB2, and mu/delta opioid receptor sites – while simultaneously enhances hippocampal neurogenesis. The combination of these neurophysiological effects likely contribute to its efficacy as a novel anxiolytic.

Meanwhile, so-called wellness drinks infused with CBD are gaining traction. The UK’s first has been launched by Botanic Lab, promoted as “Dutch courage with a difference”. Drinks giants Coca-Cola, Molson Coors Brewing Company and Diageo are all considering launching their own versions, while UK craft breweries such as Cloud 9 Brewing and Stockton Brewing Company are offering cannabis-oil laced beers, and mixologists are spiking their cocktails with CBD mellowness. The fancy marshmallow maker, The Marshmallowist, has added CBD-oil flavour to its menu, promising that “you feel the effects immediately upon eating”, without specifying what those effects might be.
Of course, parents who desperately want to find something—anything—that will help their sick children, don’t have the luxury of caring whether CBD is classified as a drug or a supplement, or whether they get it from a doctor or an online retailer. One reason why people are willing to trust companies like HempMedsPx is that, for some, CBD oil does seem to work.
Initial data also suggests that CBD has other far-reaching medical applications. A 2013 study published in the British Journal of Clinical Pharmacology found that “CBD was shown to offer benefits including acting in some experimental models as an anti-inflammatory, anticonvulsant, antioxidant, antiemetic, anxiolytic and antipsychotic agent.” This means CBD could be used as “potential medicine for the treatment of neuroinflammation, epilepsy, oxidative injury, vomiting and nausea, anxiety and schizophrenia.”
CBD was first discovered in the 1940s by Roger Adams, the former head of the chemistry department at University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana. In his research, Adams isolated CBD from hemp but couldn’t determine what exactly he’d found. In addition to CBD, Adams also synthesized analogs of THC and another cannabinoid, showing their relationship to CBD.
Accordingly, CB1R activation has been suggested as a target for anxiolytic drug development [15, 43, 44]. Proposed agents for enhancing CB1R activation include THC, which is a potent and direct agonist; synthetic CB1R agonists; FAAH inhibitors and other agents that increase eCB availability, as well as nonpsychoactive cannabis phytocannabinoids, including CBD. While CBD has low affinity for the CB1R, it functions as an indirect agonist, potentially via augmentation of CB1R constitutional activity, or via increasing AEA through FAAH inhibition (reviewed in ).
In 1992 Mechoulam’s quest for quantification led him from the plant itself to the inner recesses of the human brain. That year he and several colleagues made an extraordinary discovery. They isolated the chemical made by the human body that binds to the same receptor in the brain that THC does. Mechoulam named it anandamide—from the Sanskrit for “supreme joy.” (When asked why he didn’t give it a Hebrew name, he replies, “Because in Hebrew there are not so many words for happiness. Jews don’t like being happy.”)
I couldn’t really tell when the effect of the CBD tapered off, but I had a relatively nice, mellow afternoon. I noticed slight changes in perception after taking the BioCBD+ to the extent that I knew the formulation had “kicked-in.” Whether these perceptual changes were a direct result of cannabidiol, the other herbal additives in the product, or a combination of both – isn’t clear.
Another major reason people reported not being able to get to sleep, or maintain substantial sleep, was due to chronic pain. Many who suffer from insomnia say that they cannot find enough relief from pain to manage to get to sleep or at least to remain asleep through the night. A rodent study submitted to the European Journal of Pain noted a significant drop in inflammation and signs of pain in rats with arthritis after they received topical treatment of CBD for sleep.
CBD does not appear to have any psychotropic ("high") effects such as those caused by ∆9-THC in marijuana, but may have anti-anxiety and anti-psychotic effects. As the legal landscape and understanding about the differences in medical cannabinoids unfolds, it will be increasingly important to distinguish "medical marijuana" (with varying degrees of psychotropic effects and deficits in executive function) – from "medical CBD therapies” which would commonly present as having a reduced or non-psychoactive side effect profile.
Designs: To accurately know whether CBD is an effective intervention for anxiety disorders, robust designs should be implemented in research. In other words, study designs should be placebo-controlled, double-blinded, randomized, and preferably with large sample sizes. Unfortunately, a majority of the published literature investigating the anxiolytic potential of CBD utilizes suboptimal designs, has limited numbers of participants, or both.
Hello everyone I’m kimberly a 25 year old mother & wife. I’ve been suffering with extreme anxiety and panic attacks since August of 2016 every single day now and it was so bad I couldn’t leave my bedroom I didn’t want to eat or anything I felt dead and I was always running to the hospital or doctors because I thought I was dying when I would have an attack. I even tried Xanax, Ativan, Betta blockers & some other medicine the doctor prescribed and omg it made it worse I felt brain foggy & weird so I stopped it after almost two months. I was a person who love to drive anywhere and travel and do things with my family and dirt bike ride and work etc but I became so afraid of Everything I lost my job and lost so much weight and man it was bad and last year I became pregnant and for six months my anxiety and panic attacks weren’t so bad they calmed down & I was able to cope with it and relax a little better. I use to smoke marijuana until one day I smoked something very strong & I was so paranoid it was scary so I stopped smoking (this was before I was pregnant) well after I had my baby this past December my anxiety & panic attacks are coming back strong again. I feel warm feeling in my head and pain lower part of the back of my head, dizziness, nausea, mind racing, heart palpitations & shaky & etc I’ve experienced a lot & I’ve been checked for everything & I am healthy I just need to exercise more I’ve even had a mri & ct scan & they saw nothing wrong.. I’m tired of this I cannot keep living like this. Everyday I’m scared to do anything. My brother purchase CBD Thclear 100mg pineapple flavor and I want to try it but I’m so scared (I’m scared of everything now smh) but I have been told by many that it will help me. As I’m typing this I’m having pain traveling to back of my head from my back smh. I want to get better everyone I need my life back and I miss interacting with my children especially and my spouse. Everything I feel I get scared. Has anyone tried it? I don’t want medication I wana try natural things or the CBD. Nobody around me understands what I am feeling so I need to speak to others who experience depression and anxiety panic attacks please. I want to get better oh and currently I have sinus infection I’m taking antibiotics for but I want to try the cbd but don’t know will it make me feel crazy or mess with the antibiotics? Evidence from animal studies have begun to characterize the details of how CBD acts in the brain, and human studies of patients with and without anxiety disorders are starting to validate CBD’s efficacy as an anti-anxiety treatment. Given the huge social and financial costs of anxiety disorders in the U.S., CBD has the potential to play a significant role in treating a myriad of anxiety-related disorders.
Hey Dave. I just noticed that as well. Thanks for bringing it to my attention. Most of the information I’ve read on using CBD for sleep generally says that “higher” doses work best for sleep and insomnia. The Mayo Clinic’s site use to say to try a dose from 40 – 160 mg of CBD. This range is indeed higher than a typical serving size of CBD, which is more in the range of 10 – 20 mg. Let me know if you have any questions please.
Though it's derived from marijuana, CBD doesn't contain any psychoactive elements like pot. There may be some drawbacks associated with using CBD oil for anxiety, especially over a long-term. Hypothetical drawbacks could result from CBD usage include: deleterious epigenetic and/or neurophysiological effects, increased anxiety, tolerance onset (with decreased efficacy over time), and/or withdrawal symptoms. Keep in mind that many of these drawbacks are merely speculative and cannot be confirmed.

However, when we don’t manage these natural responses effectively, they can become maladaptive and impact our work and relationships. People with specific phobias experinence strong, irrational fears of certain objects, places, or situations (fear of snakes, flying, big spaces, small spaces, etc.). These phobias can disrupt daily routines and limit a persons abilities to function properly. Some phobias develop in childhood, while others in adolescence or early adulthood. 19 million, 8.7% of the US population suffer from specific phobias. Women are twice as likely to be affected as men.
Given the current state of evidence, it is important to avoid assuming CBD is a sustainable long-term intervention for anxiety disorders. As further research is conducted with larger-scale, longer-term, robustly designed trials – we will better understand the anxiolytic capacity of CBD. Those with refractory cases of anxiety in search of an alternative pharmacological intervention may want to discuss the feasibility of “as-needed” CBD administration with a medical professional.
I have/had ovarian/primary peritoneal cancer. I used thc/cbd oil pills I self made from the start. I am supposedly their “poster child”. I went thru with chemo and surgery. Oh that horror! But when I tried to tell two seperate doctors, the surgeon was all about it, and my oncologist threw a fit and said it was an anecdote. There are more than 100 studies at the NIH govt website.
Unknown long-term: The long-term effects of cannabidiol aren’t well understood. In just the past few years, the substance has received more mainstream attention and is increasing in popularity. As more scientific studies support its safety and efficacy as a treatment for medical conditions, more data will be gathered from long-term users. As of now, we aren’t sure whether there could be any detrimental long-term effects of cannabidiol – especially when used by minors.
In terms of cancer, the suggestion is to have three doses of CBD oil each day, and gradually increase the amount to 1 gram per day. The full treatment is believed to take 90 days. Please note that CBD oil is still illegal in many countries, but there is a significant amount of research being done on its medical applications, and a number of reputable sources have put out guides regarding the use of CBD oil for treatment of many diseases.
Earlier preclinical studies have suggested that the therapeutic effects of CBD might depend on the presence of specific clinical conditions. As an example, Campos et al. (2013) showed that the chronic use of CBD for 2 weeks, while not directly increasing hippocampal neurogenesis, prevented its decrease by unpredictable chronic stress. Thus, the absence of changes in the sleep of healthy volunteers treated with CDB in our study should not be considered as a final indication that CBD could not have positive effects in patients with sleep disorders.
CBD concentrates typically contain the strongest dosage of CBD compared to any other CBD products. It can contain up to 10 times the average CBD products. Concentrates are also convenient in that it only takes a few seconds to consume. Overall, CBD concentrates seem to be most popular among customers who are extremely busy, yet seek high potency CBD.

Based on reviews, smoking or vaporizing CBD vape oil seems to have less effects when compared to other methods of administering CBD, such as tinctures, capsules and sprays. On the flip side, others argue that smoking or vaporizing has less drawbacks than taking CBD orally, since ingesting CBD orally could result in inconsistent absorption and a delayed effect.
If I had to rate the efficacy of the second dosing option for anxiety on a scale of 1 to 10, I’d rate it about a 6. Meaning, it was noticeably more effective than the first low-dose at even just 20 mg. Perhaps in the future I’ll press my luck with an even greater dose of around 60 mg, which is equivalent to 600 mg CBD and the dosage that has been documented as effective for anxiety in clinical research.

Several parameters were recorded during polysomnography, considering that the essential tests for sleep staging are electroencephalogram, electrooculogram, and electromyogram. The equivalency factor is not designed to compare the effects of cannabis oil to dried cannabis, or provide dosage information. For many patients, consuming cannabis orally will produce much stronger effects than inhaling it. For example, when considering a product that has an equivalency factor of 12ml of oil to 1 gram of dried cannabis, and a patient who usually consumes 1 gram of dried product a day, this patient will likely use less than 12 ml of oil per day. Even for patients who have previous experience of using cannabis oil, it is recommend that you start with a low dose and go slow.
