Selective delta receptor agonists have been shown (in animal studies) to reduce anxiety-like behavior and block anxiogenic effects of stressors. Specifically, modulation of the DOR in the central amygdala may predict severity of an individual’s anxiety. There’s reason to believe that allosteric MOR and DOR modulation provided by CBD could reduce anxiety in a subset of individuals – especially when combined with aforestated 5-HT1A and CB1/CB2 effects.
Overall, it’s important to look for CBD products that are lab tested. These tinctures may only be as good as they are potent and its important to trust the companies that you’re purchasing from. When shopping for CBD for sleep, make sure to see if the products have been tested by an independent third party lab for purity and potency. Did you read the label? Does the ingredients list agree with you? If you’re a person with a lot of anxiety, you might need a higher dose of CBD to help with your sleep. Double check the label to make sure that the CBD content is clearly outlined. Some labels will not distinguish between hemp extract and CBD content (there is a difference) so it’s important to make sure you understand the products you are purchasing. There are ways to strain dangerous contaminants out of raw hemp paste. And most companies stand behind their quality and safety procedures. “We continuously test all our products ... to ensure our consumers get the levels of natural constituents they expect from the quality hemp stalk oil they purchase,” HempMedsPx states on its web site. “Additionally, all our products are tested for safety, to ensure there are no solvents, heavy metals, or other potentially harmful materials in our oil. Because we take these steps, we are always confident in our products, and you can be too.”
From this study we can conclude that the acute effects of THC (e.g. increased anxiety) are unfavorable. Evidence suggests that CBD appears well-tolerated and safe, with no adverse physiological reactions compared to a placebo. However, since the physiological effects of CBD (600 mg) were of no statistically significant difference from the placebo, it is unclear if CBD elicits any therapeutic effect – even at a seemingly reasonable dose.
Although nearly all of the published studies found CBD effective for the attenuation of anxiety, there are some notable limitations associated with the research. Perhaps the most notable limitation is the fact that most CBD studies investigate the effect of acute, single-dose administration. The problem with this is that it remains unclear as to whether chronic or long-term CBD ingestion maintains therapeutic efficacy.

The oil is much less unpleasant to take this way, although it does hugely change the taste of your coffee, so perhaps save it for your instant coffee, rather than your $5 slow-roasted French drip latte.
CBD oil products can be somewhat expensive, which may be a barrier for individuals seeking treatment or relief from different conditions and disorders. Endoca is a notable exception as far as price-point is concerned. The brand offers two options for CBD oil: pure CBD; and RAW hemp oil that contains both CBD and cannabidiolic acid (CBDa). These oils are priced at $31 for 300mg oils and $129 for 1,500mg oils; both price-points are significantly below average.
Yet when one looks at the industry more broadly, there is cause for concern. In February, as part of an investigation into the marketing claims of six hemp oil companies, the FDA analyzed 18 CBD products. What it found was disturbing: Many of these supposed CBD products were entirely lacking in CBD. Of the products tested, six contained no cannabinoids whatsoever. Another 11 contained less than 1 percent CBD. The product that tested highest in CBD, at 2.6 percent, was a capsule for dogs. In states that have legalized CBD, regulations can require CBD products to contain at least 5 percent CBD, more often 10 or 15 percent.

There were distinct changes in neural activation associated with the significant anxiolytic effects provided by CBD. When compared to the placebo, administration of CBD significantly: increased ECD tracer uptake in the right posterior cingulate gyrus and decreased ECD tracer uptake in the left parahippocampal gyrus, hippocampus, and inferior temporal gyrus. Researchers concluded that reductions in social anxiety from CBD are related to modulation of neural activity in the limbic and paralimbic regions.
Dan Frey, a physical therapist in Portland, Maine, says that his patients report the most success using CBD to treat long-term trouble spots rather than acute injury sites. Frey, who doesn’t prescribe medication or supplements, says his conversations about CBD are initiated by patients. Many also tell Frey they find it helps with pain management, especially when used in conjunction with other treatments such as massage and a targeted strengthening and mobility program.
While these drugs can be effective for many patients, some don’t respond favorably. Certain patients don’t see much improvement, or they can’t tolerate the side effects. Moreover, tranquilizers like Valium and Xanax can be highly addictive. Clearly, alternative treatments are warranted. Could cannabidiol (CBD), the most prominent non-intoxicating constituent in cannabis, provide a viable alternative for currently available anxiety medications? Quite possibly!
Kent, My mother has suffered from severe migraines since she was a child. Six weeks ago, she received the hemp oil tincture (I do not know what dosage). She does not take it daily. She rubs a drop or two on her temples at the start of a migraine. The drops worked more effectively for her than her medication did, and now that is all she uses. Hope this helps.
However, a standout amongst the most well-known approaches to expend cannabidiol is still through CBD oil. A portion of the best CBD oils incorporate brands like Green Roads World and Pure CBD Vapors. They are particularly useful for anxiety since they contain practically no THC – so there’s no danger of getting “high.” Cannabis oil can be added to nourishment or basically dropped straight under the tongue for sublingual ingestion, which works fast in relieving. Cannabis has been used for centuries to treat nerves and anxiety, as well as other mood problems. CBD may help to improve both depression and anxiety, at least in part through its interactions with serotonin receptors in the brain. Research shows that CBD can reduce both mental and physical symptoms of anxiety. A study of CBD given to people before a public-speaking event indicates that CBD can help reduce stress—this and other research has shown that CBD can be an effective treatment for social anxiety.
All this means that scientists can still only obtain marijuana-derived CBD from farms licensed by the National Institute on Drug Abuse (which until this year meant only one farm owned by the University of Mississippi). As for whether you should have a preference for CBD that comes from hemp, marijuana, or a pure synthetically produced version, there are some theories that THC—and even the smell and taste of cannabis—might make CBD more effective, but Bonn-Miller says these ideas have yet to be proven.
Although not as abundant as THC cannabinoid content, cannabidiol accounts for approximately 40% of all cannabinoids within cannabis extract. Unlike THC, cannabidiol is non-psychoactive and isn’t typically ingested with the intent to attain any sort of psychological euphoria. That said, the medicinal properties associated with cannabidiol (often administered in the format of “CBD oil”) are thought to far exceed those of THC.
Stephanie, generally, I have patients take 20 to 150mg a day for sleep +/- anxiety. Start low and go slow. Know the dosages of your product. Usually 2/3 to 3/4 of the daily dose is 1-2 hours before bedtime, and the other portion is upon waking (to improve wakefulness during the day). Other factors such as stress, hormone replacement, other meds & medical conditions, etc. play a role along with individual differences. I own a compounding pharmacy, so we see a lot of unique needs. I can't give more specific advice in this forum, but there is help!
The second scenario involved anxiety associated with socializing, unknown strangers, a party going on, etc. I also had been experiencing anxiety related to a health issue that’s been plaguing me for awhile and has yet to get corrected. The equivalency factor is not designed to compare the effects of cannabis oil to dried cannabis, or provide dosage information. For many patients, consuming cannabis orally will produce much stronger effects than inhaling it. For example, when considering a product that has an equivalency factor of 12ml of oil to 1 gram of dried cannabis, and a patient who usually consumes 1 gram of dried product a day, this patient will likely use less than 12 ml of oil per day. Even for patients who have previous experience of using cannabis oil, it is recommend that you start with a low dose and go slow.
