CBD produced no changes in predicted areas (relative to placebo) but reduced activation in the left insula, superior temporal gyrus, and transverse temporal gyrus. The fearful faces task activates the amygdala, and other medial temporal areas involved in emotion processing, and heightened amygdala response activation has been reported in anxiety disorders, including GAD and PTSD [113, 114]. CBD attenuated blood-oxygen-level dependent activation in the left amygdala, and the anterior and posterior cingulate cortex in response to intensely fearful faces, and also reduced amplitude in skin conductance fluctuation, which was highly correlated with amygdala activation [109]. Dynamic causal modeling analysis in this data set further showed CBD reduced forward functional connectivity between the amygdala and anterior cingulate cortex [110].

Cannabidiol administration approximately 1.5 hours prior to a simulated public speaking engagement significantly reduced anxiety compared to a placebo.  Those with social anxiety were found to derive the most benefit from its administration.  However, it is likely that cannabidiol would benefit even those without social phobia if anxiety is experienced during a public speaking task.

I have been totally off the effexor and all anti-depressants for 2 weeks now. The dizziness is getting much better however my emotions/agitation are horrible. I cry at everything and am extremely crabby/agitated. I realize most of this has to do with the withdrawal. I really want to see this through to find out if I can live without anti-depressants but at the same time I know it's very hard on my family. I have another doctor appt beginning of April and she says that if I don't feel better by then I most likely will need to go back on an anti-depressant. For the most part I agree with her. My hopes of proving her wrong as getting slim however. I'd like to know how long it took some of you who have withdrawn from anti-depressants to feel somewhat 'normal' or you knew you had to go back on them? I guess I'm asking if another month is a good amount of time for me to determine what I should do. In some ways I feel like I should start on them again now but I'm not going there yet? BTW, I am in no way feeling suicidal. Mornings seem to be my worst time and by early evenings I feel somewhat better – is this strange too? I'm trying not to take it unless really necessary. I’ve been experiencing panic attacks since I was 21 year olds. I am now 48. They are psychologically debilitating with depression repercussions for weeks after. I’ve tried everything – drugs, psychotherapy, meditation, breathing exercises etc. I understand the source of them and psychosis of it – but have never solved them and have pretty much given up hope. I also go through waves of anxiety – which tend to heighten the chance of a panic attack, but the two are not always correlated. Living in CO and being surrounded by CBD discussions, I finally decided to look up and see what CBD might do. Given this thread of info and responses, I’m going to start experimenting with with CBD. Side effects: There appear to be no significant unwanted side effects associated with CBD compared to a placebo. Many anxiolytics carry severe side effects such as: brain fog, drowsiness, inability to retrieve memories, impaired learning, sexual dysfunction, etc.  Individuals taking CBD are unlikely to experience severe unwanted side effects.  (Read more: “CBD side effects“).

In regards to CBD, it can definitely help, but there are so many factors that it’s hard to tell which brand will work best for you. It depends on your genetics, general health, DNA and tolerance.It won’t get you drugged up, thats for sure. There are two options, either you see a specialist in the field who can recommend the best dosage for you, or its a matter of trial and error. You can try, if it works then great, if it doesn’t so stop. I can tell you that it helped me, thats for sure.

Additionally, studies on the anxiolytic, antipsychotic and antiparkinson effects of CBD described no sedation or drowsiness side effects in their volunteers (Zuardi et al., 1993; Crippa et al., 2004; Fusar-Poli et al., 2009; Chagas et al., 2014a). These findings complement the literature on the few significant side effects resulting from the administration of CBD to humans in a wide range of doses, administered chronically or acutely (Bergamaschi et al., 2011b; Kerstin and Grotenhermen, 2017). It seems, therefore, that CBD has an adequate safety profile with good tolerability and does not affect psychomotricity or cognition (Hayakawa et al., 2007; Crippa et al., 2010; Bergamaschi et al., 2011b; Kerstin and Grotenhermen, 2017). Typical treatments for anxiety usually center around either therapy, medication or both.
