I have been on prescription medication for insomnia. It is called Lunesta. I would like some advise on how to get off this medication by using CBD oil. I am cutting the medication is half each night and using CBD gummies with it. I am not getting very good results.Any advice on this would be appreciated. I tried 40 milligrams of the CBD gummies and half of a 3 milligram Lunesta..I couldnt get to sleep until about 3 in the morning. Help please
Here’s my experience: started with insomnia in 2011 that led up to a vicious circle insomnia/anxiety/depression. Took all kinds of sleeping pills/benzodiazepines for around 3-4 years straight until I decided to stop. Yoga, meditation, binaural beats, smoking pot, you name it. I started reading about CBD like 2 months ago and decided to give it a try. I live in Europe so I was able to get my hands in a product that’s a mix of CBD and melatonin. So far it has been working great if I take it after exercising for around 1 hour at the gym. It works well but in moments of high stress it has no effects at all. As soon as I get worried about anything, or if I get sick I’m not able to sleep at all even if I take the whole bottle of CBD oil, I honestly don’t know why, I guess it’s very “mental” but in general I sleep very well after taking CBD oil.

A study published by de Mello Schier et al. (2014) reviewed the literature involving administration of CBD to animal models of anxiety. The studies reviewed by researchers assessed animal performance with measures such as: forced swimming tests (FST), elevated plus mazes (EPM), and Vogel conflict tests (VCT). In all cases, administration of CBD to animal models reduced anxiety and improved mood – as evidenced by behavioral performance.
Multiple types of anxiety: A limitation associated with CBD research is that it hasn’t been tested extensively among patients with a specific diagnostic subtype of anxiety (e.g. generalized anxiety). That said, studies note that CBD is likely efficacious in treating symptoms of many different types of anxiety including: social phobia, PTSD, panic disorder, OCD, and generalized anxiety disorder. Therefore, individuals may derive anxiolytic benefit from CBD – regardless of their specific type of anxiety.
Here’s the thing, though—CBD oil isn’t just helpful for people with epilepsy. I’m the same about taking any medication in case it makes me feel dizzy or light headed, which would then lead to massive anxiety. Scientists have come to recognize that endocannabinoids interact with a specific neurological network—much the way that endorphins, serotonin, and dopamine do. Exercise, Mechoulam notes, has been shown to elevate endocannabinoid levels in the brain, and “this probably accounts for what jogging enthusiasts call runner’s high.” These compounds, he explains, apparently play an important role in such basic functions as memory, balance, movement, immune health, and neuroprotection.
A wide variety of solvents can be used for extraction, such as chloroform, dichloromethane, petroleum ether, naphtha, benzene, butane, methanol, ethanol, isopropanol, and olive oil. Currently, resinoids are often obtained by extraction with supercritical carbon dioxide. Throughout the entire experience, my alertness, cognitive function, and energy did not suffer. I wouldn’t say I felt significantly more physically relaxed than prior to taking it, but I did feel slightly more relaxed mentally. We found no differences between CBD and placebo in respect to polysomnographic findings or cognitive and subjective measures in a sample of healthy subjects. Adjunctive option: Many speculate that CBD could bolster anxiolytic effects of various first-line pharmaceutical agents. Since likelihood of CBD interacting with other agents is minimal, it may serve as a novel adjunctive option for those with severe anxiety. In other words, someone who fails to derive sufficient benefit from a first-line option may find that addition of CBD (on an “as needed” basis) fully attenuates anxious symptoms.

Evidence from animal studies have begun to characterize the details of how CBD acts in the brain, and human studies of patients with and without anxiety disorders are starting to validate CBD’s efficacy as an anti-anxiety treatment. Given the huge social and financial costs of anxiety disorders in the U.S., CBD has the potential to play a significant role in treating a myriad of anxiety-related disorders.
As of now, researchers understand that sleep is divided into multiple cycles with different phases, and it is generally regarded that CBD oil increases sleep in the third phase, which is the “deep sleep” phase. Furthermore, it has been shown that CBD decreases the duration of REM sleep, which is a phase of light sleep and is also the phase where dreams occur.
Several studies assessed CBD using contextual fear conditioning. Briefly, this paradigm involves pairing a neutral context, the conditioned stimulus (CS), with an aversive unconditioned stimulus (US), a mild foot shock. After repeated pairings, the subject learns that the CS predicts the US, and subsequent CS presentation elicits freezing and other physiological responses. Systemic administration of CBD prior to CS re-exposure reduced conditioned cardiovascular responses , an effect reproduced by microinjection of CBD into the BNST, and partially mediated by 5-HT1AR activation . Similarly, CBD in the prelimbic cortex reduced conditioned freezing , an effect prevented by 5-HT1AR blockade . By contrast, CBD microinjection in the infralimbic cortex enhanced conditioned freezing . Finally, El Batsh et al.  reported that repeated CBD doses over 21 days, that is chronic as opposed to acute treatment, facilitated conditioned freezing. In this study, CBD was administered prior to conditioning rather than prior to re-exposure as in acute studies, thus further directly comparable studies are required.

Despite these limitations, this is the first controlled study to evaluate the effects of CBD on sleep architecture using polysomnography. Although the absence of interference with the sleep cycle is not sufficient for concluding that sleep is not affected, the results obtained contribute for the understanding of the effects of CBD in the modulation of sleep in humans.
Anti-inflammatory: Many individuals with neuropsychiatric disorders have severe inflammation, particularly neuroinflammation. Neuroinflammation is associated with many causative underpinnings including: air pollution, brain injuries, viruses, and even standard aging. This increase in inflammation can lead to glial cell and cytokine abnormalities, each of which could contribute to anxiety disorders. CBD has been shown to reduce neuroinflammation, which in turn may directly improve anxiety, as well as cognitive function and mood.
In the past few years, just such a cure has seemingly presented itself. Amid the less common remedies that can be found on the internet—special diets, meditation, biofeedback, surgical implants—a new product has recently gained prominence: CBD oil (sometimes known simply as “hemp oil”), so named for its chief chemical compound, cannabidiol, which occurs naturally in cannabis plants. In online forums and news articles, CBD has been hailed as a new frontier in epilepsy treatment, with parents testifying that it managed to stop their children’s seizures when nothing else could.
It was the seizures that tipped Penny off that something wasn’t right with Harper after she and her husband Dustin brought her home from the hospital as a newborn. Several months later, having tried a battery of epilepsy medications and still without a diagnosis, Penny and Dustin flew to Boston with Harper to see an expert in infant seizures. It was there they first heard of CDKL5. “This is the point where life changed significantly,” Penny said, “because now we had this diagnosis. You know, this abnormality in our family that we cannot fix.”

Designs: To accurately know whether CBD is an effective intervention for anxiety disorders, robust designs should be implemented in research. In other words, study designs should be placebo-controlled, double-blinded, randomized, and preferably with large sample sizes. Unfortunately, a majority of the published literature investigating the anxiolytic potential of CBD utilizes suboptimal designs, has limited numbers of participants, or both.
In my second experience with CBD, I decided that I needed to double up the dose to determine whether I could enhance the anxiolytic effect. Keep in mind that this was weeks after my first administration with zero CBD usage in between. This time I decided to take 2 capsules of the BioCBD+ in the evening at around 6:00 PM prior to grocery shopping.
The carrier oils used to create our products will solidify and go cloudy in cold temperatures. It is important to remember that this will not change the quality of the oil or alter its effects.
